Hamburg is one of the most urbanized cities in Europe. Wealthy thanks to the Hanseatic League's trade routes, it enjoyed certain commercial privileges that it still retains today, and in terms of size, it is the second largest city in Germany after Berlin.

Like many other German cities, Hamburg suffered the ravages of war, which led to its adaptation and evolution. Although most of its famous shipyards have disappeared, its greatest attraction—the port—remains intact.
