Info
Dresden, "The Florence of the Elbe," is one of the most beautiful monumental cities in eastern Germany.
Dresden is the capital of the Free State of Saxony and is known for its monuments. It is also known for the terrible bombing it suffered during World War II at the hands of the Allied air force. Specifically, the historic center was completely devastated.
Dresden is a Baroque city with palaces and churches built by the rulers of Saxony, which was reduced to ashes after the war. However, 20 years after the bombing, the historic center was almost completely rebuilt, as were the Hofkirche church, the Dresdner Residenzschloss, the Semperoper opera house, and the Zwinger Palace. Only the Frauenkirche, the Lutheran cathedral, remained in ruins for 50 years and was rebuilt after the Reunification of Germany.
