SCHWERIN

Schwerin, the city of seven lakes, has only 100,000 inhabitants, making it the smallest capital city of a German federal state. It lies in a picturesque setting, surrounded by lakes, with the impressive castle standing out against the landscape. This castle, a symbol of the city, embodies the characteristics of this beautiful city in a single building: warmth, light, and charm.

Upon arriving in Schwerin, you'll be captivated by the city's location amidst a landscape of lakes and forests along the shores of the Schweriner See. It is also surrounded by the Burgsee, Fauler See, Grimkesee, Heidensee, Große Karausche, Lankower See, Medeweger See, Neumühler See, Ostorfer See, Pfaffenteich, and Ziegelsee. The Schweriner See is one of the largest lakes in Germany; the Ziegelsee is a paradise for sailing enthusiasts; and the Ostorfer See is the perfect place for a swim.

History tells us that as early as 965, several documents from that time mention a "castle in the middle of a freshwater lake," perhaps Schwerin? It's unclear, as the town's founding and the castle's reconstruction are only documented from the second half of the 12th century. The castle was the residence of the dukes and grand dukes of Mecklenburg and is one of the most important examples of historicist architecture in Europe.

A fairytale castle, with its domes, its large and small towers, and surrounded by Lake Schwerin, creates an unforgettable memory. Inside, you'll find the castle museum, which is highly recommended, as is a stroll through the garden, designed in the English style (and absolutely beautiful). There is also another garden in the Baroque style.
